A. Completed application and deadlines
The Mortar Board National Foundation invites applications for Mortar Board Fellowships and endeavors to provide for a streamlined, yet thought-provoking application process that allows each applicant to showcase her/his accomplishments and plans. The fellowship selection process is managed by the Mortar Board Fellowship Selection Committee, which reviews all completed applications. Mortar Board Fellowships are for Mortar Board members who are or will be working toward a postbaccalaureate degree in the 2017-2018 academic year.
A completed application for a Mortar Board National Foundation fellowship consists of three parts: 1. this application form, completed in full, and submitted electronically; 2. a current, official electronic or hard copy transcript from every institution of higher education that you have attended (emailed to fellowships@mortarboard.org or mailed to the National Office); and 3. two recommendations as described below.
The deadline for receipt of the completed application, all transcripts and recommendations is March 1, 2017. An incomplete application will receive no consideration.
B. Recommendation explanation
Two letters of recommendation must be from faculty or other persons who can speak with authority about your ability to do graduate work in your chosen field and about your personal qualities and achievement. It will be helpful if one of your recommenders could write about your out-of-classroom experiences related to your degree objective and to your leadership and service on campus and in the community.
Send those that will be making your recommendations this link: http://www.jotform.us/mortarboard/fellowshiprec.
You will supply their names and information in the next-to-last section of this form.
C. Suggestions and Mortar Board contact information
Thorough, precise and legible information on the application form will enhance the selection committee’s ability to consider your application. Accurate spelling and correct grammar and punctuation used in conjunction with well-reasoned and thoughtful essay answers are baseline expectations of the committee. Read the application completely before you start formulating your responses.
Take your time and plan ahead to ensure that all three parts of the application are received in the National Office on or before their deadlines.
You are solely responsible for the completion of the three parts of the application. That is, the National Office staff will not initiate calls or emails to advise you about parts that are missing or incomplete. You are invited to email or call the Mortar Board National Office to determine the status of your application.
