• VCSL Workshop/Class Application:

    From Thought to Form
  • Please use the form below to convey your best ideas for your workshop and as a prompt to help you think through the planning.  Don't forget that the application must be completed by October 15th, 2015 along with the accompanying materials described in the email you received earlier.  Although some may use the term "workshop" and others the term "class," workshop will be used in this form for the purposes of simplification.

  • WORKSHOP TITLE

  • If this is a new workshop, meditating or visioning will aid you in coming up with the perfect title for what you want to express to your participants. For example, the title “Working Hard to Lose Weight” would probably not attract many people, but something like “5 Easy Steps to a Healthier You” would be more attractive.

  • FACILITATOR(S)

  • SELF ASSESSMENT

  • VCSL staff and administrators are only able to provide a minimal amount of office support for presenters; on the whole, facilitators are expected to produce their own materials, keep accurate records, and be able to communicate electronically with staff and workshop participants. Please assess your own skills in the following areas:

  • MAKING SURE YOUR WORKSHOP SUPPORTS SOM PRINCIPLES

  • Our goal is to offer workshops that are not only of exceptional quality, but are in alignment with the principles of Science of Mind and the vision of our Center, “To Love as God Loves.” Please use the following section to show your support for this goal and your alignment with these principles.

  • Praying, visioning and meditating on your topic are integral practices for the development of your workshop. If you need support in this area, please contact a Practitioner or one of our Staff Ministers to set up an appointment to spend time in spiritual contemplation. Otherwise, respond below:

  • MAKING LOGISTICAL PLANS FOR YOUR WORKSHOP

  • VCSL keeps a very busy schedule with various groups and classes meeting daily. Please check with the office staff to ensure the date and time you have in mind is available and is a good time to hold your class. If there is a big Sunday workshop already planned, e.g., you will not want to book yours on the Saturday before. Ideally, you need to allow three to six months in advance for being slated on the calendar, planning, and advertising.

  • VCSL Staff Assistance: Because of the demands of organizing and planning within our center, we strongly suggest recruiting a practitioner or workshop assistant to assist with setup (unlocking doors, getting chairs out, finding extension cords) and tear-down (help putting away chairs and supplies, locking doors). This will free you to focus on your presentation and will ensure that all goes smoothly for the center and you. The most successful way to do this is to comp the person a space in your workshop.

  • SETTING A FEE FOR YOUR WORKSHOP/CLASS

  • Your time is valuable and it costs the center to have the lights on and doors open so a fee must be charged that provides reasonable compensation for you and the Center. At the same time, the “going rate” for our area and our congregation must be considered.

Although not a requirement, providing “scholarships,” opens up the workshop to congregants who may be in great need of your message but who are currently unable to pay. Some participants may also be willing to “pay it forward,” covering the enrollment fee for a fellow participant(s).

  • MARKETING YOUR WORKSHOP

  • A great workshop can be a total failure, if it is ineffectively marketed and no one attends. Use this section to think through your marketing strategy and to convey to the committee that you have an effective plan.

  • Should be Empty:
