Phi Gamma Delta, also known as Fiji or Phi Gam, was founded in 1848 at Jefferson College in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. Phi Gamma Delta exists to promote lifelong friendships, to reaffirm high ethical standards and values, and to foster personal development in the pursuit of excellence. Phi Gamma Delta is committed to provide opportunities for each brother to develop responsibility, leadership, scholarship, and social skills in order to become a fully contributing member of society. The Austin Peay Delta Colony of Phi Gamma Delta is Proud to offer this scholarship to a future APSU Governer.
Purpose:
To identify incoming male freshmen who have exhibited extraordinary academic success, involvement and leadership skills throughout high school and who show promise for continuing those into the next four years.
The Black Diamond Scholarship is not intended to strictly provide a mere monetary gift to those students that excel, but also meant to provide students with opportunities to improve on their professional skills. These include social interaction and interviewing skills that can be further refined and used in the future.
Reward:
Up to but no more than $1000 will be awarded to selected qualified applicants for the 2015-2016 academic year.
Qualifications:
Interested candidates must meet the following criteria to qualify for this award:
- Graduating high school senior with a GPA of at least 3.00 on a 4.00 scale;
- Have held a leadership position in a student or service organization within the last two years;
- Have applied and been admitted to Austin Peay State University;
- It is recommended to have at least one letter of recommendation from a high school teacher or service organization leader accompanied with the application; however, it is not required.
*Letter of recommendation and application must be submitted by August 18, 2015.
