Here's some information about the awards that are offered by the Barony and what they are for:
An award is a way for an individual to be recognized by the SCA. Baronial awards are non-armigerous (which means they do not affect your Order of Precedence) and may be given as many times as the Baronage deems necessary.
Award of the Golden Cord
Cords are the strands that make up the rope of service, which binds our Barony together. The more cords there are, the stronger the Barony. The Award of the Golden Cord is given to those gentles who have enriched the Barony and its populace through an act of service. This award was established on 3/30/2002.
Award of the Golden Knot
It is the work of its artisans in which a Barony can take Pride. The Gold Knot recognizes those artisans who strive to perfect their skills in arts and sciences. This award was established on 3/26/1988.
Award of Shields Knot
The Coill is well-known for its ferocious fighters. The Shields Knot recognizes those who excel in martial combat. This award was established on 10/20/2017.
Award of the Coill's Hydra
Many minds working towards a common purpose is an apt description of the Hydra. The Award of the Hydra's Coill is awarded to a group for contribution to the Barony. This award was established on 8/11/2001.
Award of Excellence of Nottinghill Coill
It is the works of its people by which a barony is judged, and in which the baron may take pride. The Baron's Award of Excellence was created to recognize those works which have been particularly pleasing to the baron. This award was established on 3/1/1990. This award is traditionally given out by the Baron.
Award of Courtesy of Nottinghill Coill
The harmony of the barony springs from the grace and courtesy of its people. The Baroness's Award of Courtesy was created to recognize those who are exceptional in their display of these virtues that all might know them and endeavor to do likewise. It is given at the discretion of the Baroness. This award was established sometime before 10/31/1990. This award is traditionally given out by the Baroness
An order is a group of people who are known for specific acts of valor, beauty, service or some other virtue of high standing within the SCA. An individual may only be inducted into an order once by the Baronage and thereafter is considered a "companion" of that order.
Coill's Guiding Beacon
In the trackless dark between the fires of habitation we seek out the lights that mean companionship and civilization. The Coill's Beacon recognizes and celebrates individuals who by deed and word act as guides to those seeking the lights of chivalry and courtesy. There is no greater honor with the Barony than the Coill's Guiding Beacon. This order was established on 12/15/1996.
Order of the Coill's Bells
Though the glories of past must never be forgotten, it is to the future that a Barony must look. The Order of the Coill's Bells recognizes the future of our Barony in the works of its youth and is given to children sixteen years of age and under who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to the Barony. This order was established on 1/18/1997.
Order of the Coill's Champions
Great honor is bestowed on those who serve Nottinghill Coill as a Baronial Champion. Upon stepping down as a champion, they are inducted into the Order of the Coill's Champions. This order was established sometime before 2/24/1981. This order is not included in the recommendation form as it has specific awarding requirements.
Order of the Coill's Muse
The SCA is dedicated to researching and re-creating the arts and skills of pre-17th-century Europe. The artisans of Nottinghill Coill exemplify thi mision. The Order of the Coill's Muse is awarded to those members of the Barony who excel in the arts and sciences and promote them in the Barony in a longstanding and continuing way. This order was established sometime before 2/2/1980.
Order of the Gordian Knot
Formerly called Coill's Tripaliare, the Order of the Gordian Knot is used to recognize those who have rendered great and continuing service to the Barony. This order was established sometime before 2/2/1980.
Order of Pewter Spoon
Nottinghill Coill operates on a simple motto: "Feed them into submission." The Order of the Pewter Spoon is given for skill in planning and cooking feasts. This order was established on 3/1/1990.
Order of the Silver Knot
The Order of the Silver Knot recognizes individuals who provide longstanding service to the Barony yet live outside of Nottinghill Coill. This order was established sometime before 1/1/1989.
Order of the Sword Knot
Nottinghill Coill naturally brings out the best in its fighters. The Order of the Sword Knot recognizes indiviuals for excellence in the martial arts. This order was established sometime before 8/24/1991.
Company of Gavin
The Company of Gavin is a recognition Order for those who have served the Coill as Baronage. It is named after our founder, Master Gaven Reynes. This order was established on 12/9/2017.
