Whether you are an intermediate or advanced watercolorist/artist, this fun workshop is for you. We’ll begin by working on the basic watercolor painting techniques and practice applying those to simple paintings. With the basics in hand, we will move on to learning to paint a landscape or still life using a variety of techniques. The class will include lots of demos, individual assistance and learning by painting along with the instructor. Reference materials to paint from will be provided. The workshop is tailored for different levels of experience.
Our instructor, Charles Rowland, works in various media, including watercolor, gouache, acrylic and pen and ink. A watercolor artist for over 20 years he is both an active artist and teacher. His work has won many awards in Ohio area exhibitions and can be found in private and corporate collections throughout the Midwest, West and southern United States. His work is characterized by strong design and a solid approach to the technical fundamentals of the medium. While avoiding photorealism, his painting style captures the essence and emotion of the subject while involving the viewers' imagination in its' interpretation. The choice of subject matter is diverse ranging from seascapes and landscapes to still lifes and portraits. An avid sailor, his work is often based on nautical themes which frequently are taken from his Great Lakes and Chesapeake sailing experiences.
