The Funds: The Dean, along with the CCM Staff Council, created the Professional Development Fund beginning in 2014 in order to provide a source of money for staff development opportunities. The fund for the 2015-2016 academic year amounts to a total of $5,000.
The Panel: A panel composed of CCM Staff Members appointed by the CCM Staff Council will distribute awards based on completed Application forms.
Eligibility: All full time CCM Staff Members are eligible to apply. Faculty and Adjunct Faculty are not elligble for these awards. If a staff member also holds an adjunct appointment, their application must be geared towards development in their position as a staff member, not solely as an instructor.
Those who received an award in the previous year may apply, but should know that their recent award may be a factor in the panel's deliberation.
Staff are encouraged to also seek funding from their individual departments, as the Staff Council may not be able to fulfill the entire request for funding depending on remaining funds.
The Awards: The professional development opportunity must be directly related to the person's currently held position and must be approved by his/her supervisor. A supervisor may refuse to recommend an employee for such funding if the time is inconvenient for the office (i.e. in peak periods) or the seminar/project/opportunity is not beneficial to the division/college.
Once the application has been approved by the committee the applicant will be informed via email. The award can only be distributed as a reimbursement after the expenses have occured and verifying receipts have been received.
If personal funds were used, the reimbursement will be processed with the next qualifying paycheck after the paperwork has been finalized. If departmental funds were used, either the expense will be charged to a budget line appropriated by the CCM Business Office, or an NIU transfer will be issued.
Award Amounts: The Maximum award will be $500.00
Deadline and Award Announcments: This online form must be fully completed, submitted and approved by a supervisor before requests will be considered. Incomplete forms will not be considered. Applicants will be notified via email of the award decision, and all decisions from the committee are final.
Applications will be accepted throughout the academic year until the allocated amount has been awarded, or until June 1, 2016.
Applications for funding will be considered for events taking place on or after July 1, 2015, assuming all required documentation is submitted.
Project Reports: All allocations are contingent upon the proposed project actually taking place.
The recipient is required to file a brief report with the Awards Panel within thirty days of completion of the project/seminar and in any case, no later than June 1, 2016. This report should summarize the project and your participation as well as show how the opportunity benefited you as a professional and how it benefits CCM. The report should also itemize all expenses.
